Have you ever asked yourself what other reasons might there be for you to stay close to the heart of God? What more is there to Christianity than sitting with God in the morning; Bible in one hand and coffee in the other? Is it just to keep a good attitude throughout the day and not sin? We had a good reminder of the real purpose yesterday.
We have been visiting around to different churches lately, and our travels brought us to a church not far from our house. We walked in, and my wife went into the ladies room, and after what seemed like an eternity, she came back out chatting with a woman in animated and happy conversation. "There's the culprit!" I thought, in a moment of the flesh. She introduced us, and the three of us stood and talked.
After just a few minutes, I felt impressed by the Lord to encourage her about walking in victory. I awkwardly said to her, "I hope I am not making assumptions here, but I feel like the Lord is saying that He has a place of victory for you to walk in. And I see you stepping into that place of victory."
Those words struck a cord with her. Her eyes become wet with tears. She opened up to us. She told us of lately being divorced after 20+ years of marriage. Her husband was not paying child support for their seven children. He was abusive to her. She just lost her job, and her father died a couple months ago.
What took place in the next 30 minutes was significant and meaningful ministry.
Walking with God is not about making your life better or making more money to feed your flesh. We do not seek God's heart for the thrill or to look spiritual in front of our friends. No. We walk with God because people need us to! We make sacrifices to walk in the power of God, not for a show, but because people need the power of God to touch them! They are facing things they can't handle alone. God wants us to be ready to fight in this cosmic battle for the souls of men. It takes a keen ear and a consecrated heart to bring healing and encouragement to those in need. I am not trying to flatter myself with this story. But I hope you see that this life ain't about devotional Christianity. We are in a battle. The world needs you ready!
