The Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys were the most hotly prosecuted groups from Jan 6. The Proud Boys announced that they were filing suit against the government "alleging the prosecutions violated their constitutional rights and amounted to political retaliation." (Click here to read more.)
This is a good sign that pardons may be coming!
Four of Proud Boys had their sentences only commuted - not pardoned - like David. This could signal optimism among the Proud Boys that the pardons are coming!
Proud Boys Issue Warning to News Outlets
Enrique Tarrio, leader of the Proud Boys, had this to say at a press event:
To the media: ...You were complicit, fanning the flames of falsehoods that fueled our torment...Any outlet that spreads lies or defamatory narratives about this lawsuit will face swift and unrelenting legal consequences.
Low Wrongful Death Settlement
Ashli Babbit's family settled their wrongful death suit for about $5 million. The community felt that this settlement amount was too low. It could set the bar too low for the rest of the defendants after them. If a wrongful death won only $5 million, then those that did not die would obviously win less.
However, with the Proud Boys suit at $100 Million, it raises the bar again. This could be a good thing as well.
The Oath Keepers have not yet announced their lawsuit. There are several attorneys working on the project.
