Who Sent You? - J6 Prison Stories

Several times during his imprisonment, fellow prisoners asked our Patriot friend , "Who sent you here?" They were recognizing that he did not belong there, and at the same time he was doing remarkable good deeds, helping many people. It seemed to them that someone sent him there to help them. Read on for the story of one such instance:

One day our imprisoned Patriot friend was in a parenting class led by the prison. A big and intimidating man who had drug charges said, "I want my children to be afraid of me. Then they will tow the line." And our Patriot friends spoke up and said, "Fear is no guarantee of good behavior. Look at the Israelites. The Lord rescued them from slavery in Egypt. Then he brought them to Mount Sinai in the wilderness. And God descended on the mountain. The Israelites were so afraid of the voice of God, the sounds of thunder, and the threats of God that they cried out in fear. They told Moses to talk to God himself. They were too afraid. Then in a few days, these same people had a drunken orgy. So that fear of God had no effect on their behavior.

By contrast the Bible says that God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. So if we fast forward to the New testament time, the love of God was so compelling and so completely changed these men from the heart that these men delivered themselves up to death, terrible deaths, rather than deny the name of Christ. And so I love my children with a godly kind of love. So that this same Love will drive all of their actions, and that they too may be so committed to the Lord that they will do whatever is required of them without denying Christ or offending our God with sin."

After our Patriot friend delivered this homily, the same drug dealer turned to him sharply and said, "Who sent you to us?" To which he responded, "God."
